Devanei Solai

Hi! My name is Devanei (pronounced They've-On-A), and I'm a product designer based in NYC. When I'm not tinkering on an idea, I'm making masala chai or playing with my family's dogs.

Truth be told though, I'm usually making something. I've always been a builder. The only thing that's changed over the years are the tools and materials I work with. With the latest shift of AI, I feel like a kid again!

Expo markers and whiteboards. These artistic master pieces are still in my mom's middle school classroom 20 years later.

Watercolors and paint brushes.

Rice flour and water. This is a South Indian floor art form called Kolum.

Cardboard and hot glue. Hot glue blew my mind when I learned about it. The box of recycling was now my oyster.

Old t-shirts and thread. This is Popcorn, my childhood family dog dressed in his best.

Balsa, bass, and super glue. I was big into Science Olympiad in high school.

VS Code (I was a computer science major), Figma, and now Loevable, Cursor, Claude Code, and the list goes on...
